• Our life

    Hello everyone !

So i just red an article about African Americans way of life nowadays, and here are my thoughts on that very interesting article :

It was kinda funny how the article described our life as « bright, free, equal, joyful,or worthy » while any of the difficulties we are going through are not even mentionned. But the worst part in all of it is that people are actually believing it, without questionning themselve. As an african american girl, I don’t agree with that. We and all the immigrants are discriminated economically, on the education system and on our professional life and all of that is not new.

But let's go back a little further in history.

The Pilgrims were a group of British settlers left England were they were persecuted because of their believe, in order to find religious freedom. Once arrived in America it was really hard for them to survive because they were not used to it, so we can say that the first settlers were immigrants too but thanks to the Wampanoags who were already living there, they finally succeeded to stay alive. In fact , the Wampanoags tough them how to hunt, to plant corns etc, that's how they ended up being friends and celebrate thanksgiving every year, that is now a tradition.

The Piligrims were immigrants, who ran away their country because they wasn't living a good life. But event thought they were strangers at first, the Wampanoags welcomed them and helped them.

Which is absolutely not the case here .

Althought the segregation ended on the second of july in 1964 with the Civil rights act, discrimination still persit in the United States. In fact, there are still some racist laws that discriminated non white people. For example one of the laws the Arizona State passed in April 2010 ordered immigrants to carry their alien registration documents at all times and requires police to question people if there's reason to suspect they're in the United States illegally.

Once again people are judged by their appearance, and this is absolutely not right.

Still, strangers and people living in other coutries are still believing in the American Dream myth : the hope that in the US anyone can become rich and famous if they work hard and try their very best to suceed. This myth is moreover well interpreted in the musical Miss Saigon where the masculin character is full of ambition, and wants to become rich coming in the usa. While the truth is revealed trhough the song American Land where the man is explaining how little y little he becomes aware of the difficulties of life in the US and that the American dream does not always come true.

I didn't mention yet about Mexicans migrants, who are facing one of the worst situation in America as an immigrant. You see, although most of them don’t even remember Mexico because they grew in america, they are forced to it. This created a debate withi the US congrate, but Trump decided to end the program that shield about 800.000 immigrants who came as childen.

Some Mexicans find it some advantages, like the possibility to see people that they didn’t see for long, but there are more disadvantages.

By leaving, they lose all their friend and belongings… and they find themselves in a place they often don’t know. Some people even fell in depression, like Aguilar, a deported Mexican.

But there’s still a light at the end of the tunnel, as Mexicans are prepared to help people returning to mexico.

To sum up, I just don't get why the perception of immigration changed over the year while it's still the same process : people are living, seeking for a better life and a better future for them and their children but some are still against it. The human is being selfish and it detains on people's life and I don't think that is right.

Voila ! I just wanted to share some thoughts with you guys, hope you understand and that you will not be this stupid :)
